Is it OK to tell a potential employer that I have a vacation scheduled?
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009Sarah asked:
I have a telephone interview this week for a job in Pittsburgh (I live in NJ), and if I get it, I anticipate that it will start sometime in July. My fiance and I have a week-long vacation scheduled for the week of July 1st. If the company offers me the job and asks when I am available to start, is it appropriate to tell them that I have a vacation scheduled and won’t be able to start until after I return? I would also have to give my current employer two-weeks notice, as well as give myself time to move out there. Or should I just give them a date for after the vacation and not tell them my reason? Our hotel is already totally paid for and non-refundable, so I can’t postpone the trip. Thank you!
